Often times, progressive and traditional practices are pitted as polar opposites, a false dilemma. What happens when a school takes the best of both concepts and applies them to all areas of schooling, including admissions? Christine Greenberg, Prep and Primary Principal presents a keynote on the journey of The Harbour School in the last 11 years and its community learnings gleaned from student, faculty, administrative and admissions personnel.

Beijing City International School strives to live its mission by showing compassion and inspiring perspective families.  We model these attributes through a collaborative team approach prior to, during and after our admissions season.  This session will explore how the Departments of Communications, Admissions and the Academic Divisions support each other in onboarding families to our school, including our summer transition program.

Handled well, the enrolment process can be a highly important and informative first step in what may be a student’s entire journey through school education. In many, and perhaps most cases however, it is simply a checkbox process that aims to get students into school.

There are many enrolment systems that check whether a student is well suited to the school - do they have good enough academics, do they offer something extra to the school community, will they be a good fit? Far, far fewer aim to ensure that the school is well suited to the student.

In this session, Jonathan will look at the development of a more holistic and rounded enrolment process which involves a steadily increasing range of people and functions in the school, but which, as a result, is actually cutting down substantially on administrative, educational and behavioural issues further down the line - and is feeding essential market intelligence back into the front end of the process.

The Harbour School is a Prep-G12 international school in Hong Kong that aims to unlock the best in every student through progressive education and individual approaches to teaching. We are now on its third year of using OpenApply. This session will cover a brief history about how we used to run our admissions process, how we implemented OpenApply and how we use it today.

Admissions is often the start of the data workflow that feeds into many other processes throughout the school, from academics to the cafeteria. Therefore, conducting things according to IT best practices — such as having a clean OpenApply database — is the first thing to get right. We'll discuss challenges that make keeping databases up-to-date and in-sync.
